The Roma derby produces drama. Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri celebrated with the team’s mascot eagle, while Jose Mourinho immediately held an emergency meeting with AS Roma players on the pitch.
Lazio’s tactical mixes have a unique way of celebrating victory over their arch-rivals, AS Roma, in the Rome derby , Sunday (26/9/2021).
In the sixth match of the Italian League 2021-2022 which took place at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio won 3-2 thanks to goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (10′), Pedro (19′), and Felipe Anderson (63′).
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma counter goals came through Roger Ibanez’s contribution (41′) and Jordan Veretout’s penalty (69′).
When the ” Derby della Capitale ” aka the Roma derby came to an end, Sarri grabbed attention when he celebrated his victory with Olimpia, Lazio’s mascot eagle.
Sarri made his hand as a foothold for the Olimpia who proudly posed in front of the camera and the fans who packed the north stands of the Stadio Olimpico.
“He sleeps close to my room at the Formello training centre. So sometimes I hear it,” said Sarri about his reason for celebrating the Rome derby victory with Olimpia.
“I admit, emotionally this was one of the most exciting matches of my career.”
“I didn’t think the derby would give me this kind of adrenaline and satisfaction when I win,” Sarri added.
When Sarri rejoices with the eagles, Mourinho looks furious. The AS Roma coach did not want to wait until he was in the dressing room to speak to his squad.
Mourinho responded to the defeat in the Rome derby by immediately holding an “emergency meeting” on the pitch!
The Portuguese coach gathered all his players and formed a circle in the middle of the Olimpico pitch.
Mourinho is said to have given motivational words of encouragement to his foster children.
The coach, aka The Special One, hasn’t finished making a fuss yet. After that, Mourinho decided not to attend the press conference session after the Lazio vs AS Roma match .
Reportedly, Mourinho did not like the way the press conference was held after the match.
He wanted to speak to journalists who were present in the press room of the stadium, not just answer a list of questions given via text messages.
The Serie A delegation is said to have asked most journalists to leave the press room at the Stadio Olimpico and leave questions via text messages.
The Stadio Olimpico press room was only filled by correspondents of Sky Sport Italia and Rai.
In Mourinho’s eyes, all journalists have the same right to ask direct questions. He did not want the press conference session to be dominated by certain media.
“I want to speak to the press,” Mourinho shouted at the Serie A delegation, as reported by Corriere dello Sport .
