Arsenal’s empty schedule in European competition this season makes Mikel Arteta feel hot. For that the Gunners manager is determined to return the Champions League nights to the Emirates Stadium.
The 2021/2022 season is the first season since 1994/1995 where Arsenal can only compete in the domestic arena. Finishing in eighth place in the Premier League and failing to win the Europa League last season is the reason why the London Cannon has been quiet this season.
This situation clearly did not make Arteta comfortable. However, he is trying to take advantage of the loose schedule to further forge his players through additional training sessions.
The goal is clear back to compete in the Champions League . A competition that Arsenal have long missed after the last time they took part in the 2016/2017 edition when Arsene Wenger had not stepped down from the coaching chair and Arteta was still actively playing in North London.
“My family and children may be happy I can stay at home more often but I want to play in Europe with Arsenal. Competing with the best teams,” said Arteta.
“Every time I hear the song Champions League I feel anxious. Arsenal should not be absent. Maybe we will have more time to train but this is not a situation to be grateful for,”
“However, the extra training sessions must really be maximized. There is more and more time that Arsenal have to finalize tactics and preparation,” added the coach with the Spanish passport.
Arsenal’s dream to be able to return to the top caste of the event between the blue continent clubs does not seem an impossibility. Although it was tested with a bad start in the Premier League, the London Cannon slowly rose.
Since being slaughtered by Manchester City five goals without reply, Arsenal have always won in the next three weeks. Norwich City, Burnley, and Tottenham Hotspur were all bulldozed and as a result they have penetrated the top ten of the standings.
Slowly but surely, investments of more than 100 million Euros for new players last summer are starting to show. If consistency can be maintained, Arteta and Arsenal are not impossible to compete again for the top four.
